Code of Conduct

1. Dress Code policy

No, you cannot just wear whatever you want to school. To be allowed to class you have to be dressed appropriately, according to the Dress Code guidelines. Please review the CNHS Dress Code in detail so there are no excuses. Note: Wearing a hood or ski
mask on your head or face is a safety hazard and forbidden in the school building. Surgical masks are allowed.

2. Illegal Substances

Any use or possession of any illegal substance on or near City Neighbors Campus (example: Drugs, vaping, edibles, alcohol, nicotine etc) is completely forbidden and will lead to in-school/out of school suspension and counseling referrals as needed.

3. Fighting

Fighting will result in an automatic 3 day out of school suspension. It may be more depending on the situation. This applies to both the person who hit first and the one that hit back.

4. Disrespect

Making inappropriate gestures, comments, insults, using offensive language to your classmates or staff. And/or lying or giving misleading information to school staff.


5. Bullying, Harassment & Intimidation

Bullying, harassment, and intimidation are serious and will not be tolerated. Bullying, harassment & intimidation mean any intentional conduct, including verbal, physical, written...or intentional electronic communication (before/during/after school) that creates a hostile educational environment. Baltimore City Schools take this as seriously as fighting and we will too. Bullying, harassment & intimidation
has also led to students being removed and/or transferred from CNHS.


6. Weapons & Explosives

Toy guns, cap guns, knives, box cutters, razors,lighters, mace/pepper spray and firecrackers will result in at least a long-term suspension (10-45 days).


7. Absences and early dismissals

Students cannot leave campus during the school day without prior written consent from their parents.” A phone call will not do, we need a letter/email from a legal guardian prior to any student leaving early.

8. Jupiter Grades

Jupiter Grades is an online grading program. Teachers will post grades within two weeks of the date the assignment was due. We expect students and families to use Jupiter grades as a means to help communicate with teachers and find out about school
assignments. Students should check their jupiter twice a day.


9. Academic Dishonesty - Plagiarism and use of AI

City Neighbors High School has high expectations for students’ academic integrity; thus, the academic team will have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to Plagiarism and Cheating. According to the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL), “plagiarism is using someone else’s ideas or words without giving them proper credit.” In other words, students are expected to turn in work that solely represents their own knowledge and effort, as well as properly cite all outside sources. Assignments that are plagiarized, or the result of cheating, will receive a 0 score. For Larger Project Assignments that contain plagiarism/cheating, teachers may allow students to
attend coach class to review the plagiarism/cheating and given the opportunity to resubmit. Common actions that will be counted as plagiarism/cheating include, but are not limited to:

  • Copying information from any outside source without proper citations

  • Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate an answer to a prompt and presenting that answer as the students’ original work

  • Teacher’s should explicitly state proper, or prohibited, uses of AI for each assignment.

  • Relying on other people, including family members, to complete work

  • Using another student’s assignment to copy, or paraphrase, answers

    10. Cell Phones & Technology

    CNHS will be a cell phone free school for 2024-25. Student’s arerequired to store their cell phones and/or smart watches in lock pouches provided by the school. Please remind your parents to contact the main office if they have an emergency. Earphones should be put away upon entry into the building. OUTSIDE/PERSONAL DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED FOR USE IN CLASSROOMS (I.G iPads, tablets, or any other personal electronics).

    11. School Entry & Dismissal

    Students are to enter through the main entrance, and obtain a latepass if arriving after 9:00 a.m. Students are permitted to exit through the side door (Bayonne)and main entrance door at dismissal.

    12. Campus Use

    Students are allowed to play football in the rear parking area as long as cars arenot parked there. Please do not throw footballs, etc. in front of the school. As for skating and bike riding, students are not allowed to skate or ride bikes on campus anytime that the elementary or high school is in operation, before, during or after school. Once students have entered the building you are not allowed to leave the building for any reason without administrator permission. NOTE: The consequence for leaving the building without administrator permission is an automatic in-school suspension. Students with repeat offenses can increase consequence to an out of school suspension.

    13. Food deliveries are not permitted at any time.

    Any unauthorized food deliveries will be confiscated. 1. Shared Space - Students are not allowed on the City Neighbors Hamilton side of the building, UNLESS they have a pass from a teacher or staff member to visit the nurse suite. Students that violate this policy will be considered as TRESPASSING and will receive 2 day suspension.
